Reddit: understanding its features, gameplay, and advertising placement
What is Reddit?
Reddit, also known as ReddiTian, is a comprehensive social news site and decentralized online community. Whether you like news, sports, games or various cute animals, you can find any content you are interested in on Reddit's tens of thousands of communities. Reddit's slogan is "Speaking ahead of the news, the voice from the internet", whether it's celebrity gossip, political elections or memes, Reddit is always at the forefront. Unlike other social networking sites, Reddit's anonymity means that it does not have any self-contained traffic KOLs, and all content is ranked by popularity, with popular content being pushed to the homepage. However, it is not recommended to participate in political discussions on Reddit!
How to make the most of Reddit?
1. Registration and interface:
Reddit's registration is very simple, just enter your email, username, and password. However, you need to use a VPN to log in. In Reddit, there are three basic terms: Upvote, Downvote, and Karma. Upvote is a function to like a post, you can like other users' posts, and other users can also like your posts; Downvote is a vote for posts that you don't like; Karma represents your level in Reddit, the more likes you get on your posts and comments, the higher your Karma score.
2. Promotion:
Users can promote their posts in Reddit's communities and groups. Just enter the community and find the 'Create Post' button on the right or top of the page, click it to enter the post creation interface. Choose whether to add relevant tags based on the content category, and finally click 'post' to publish the post.
Reddit posts are mainly divided into three types: Post, Image and Video, and Link. In the Post type, you can write a title and a text description, and insert images or videos to attract visitors. For the Image and Video types, you directly write a title and upload images or videos. The Link type requires a title and input of a URL. Please note that some external links are not allowed to be posted.
In general, we use the Post type to attract more traffic. You can create YouTube videos related to your product, and then insert the video URL in the post to attract visitors to your website through video marketing.
3. Create a community:
To create your own Reddit community, simply click on your profile picture in the upper right corner and select 'Create a Community'. Reddit communities have three types: Public, Restricted, and Private. Public communities are visible to everyone, Restricted communities allow everyone to browse the community but only authorized users can post, and Private communities only allow authorized users to enter.
You can also decide whether to mark the community as 'NSFW' by checking the box in the window. (Please note that once the community is created, the name cannot be changed or the community cannot be deleted. If you plan to transfer your community, you can post on r/adopt-a-reddit to find buyers).
After the community is created, you will become a moderator (referred to as mod) of the community. You can add a description to the community and use relevant tools to improve the community settings (including community rules and appearance, etc.). A community can have multiple moderators, and you can find helpers on r/need a mod or r/mod search. After the community is created, you can post on r/new reddits to introduce this new community to everyone and attract more members to join. If you have any other questions, you can seek help on r/ModSupport.
Three, how to advertise?
Reddit's ad types include brand display ads (charged per thousand impressions), traffic (charged per click), conversions (charged per click), video views (charged per view), and app downloads (charged per click). Compared to Facebook, the competition for Reddit ads is relatively smaller, but the effectiveness may not be as significant as on Facebook.
The advantage of Reddit ads lies in the ability to target the audience very precisely. You can directly target interest groups, and the ads will only appear when users enter those interest groups. Therefore, the click-through rate for ads is higher than on Facebook. If your product has high profit margins and can easily find related interest groups, advertising on Reddit would be a good choice.
The above is a brief introduction to the features, gameplay, and advertising placement on Reddit. I hope it is helpful to everyone.
